Meet the coaches behind Quay Strength, and find out why serious lifters across Plymouth keep coming back.
Quay Strength was built on a single conviction: strength training should make your life better, not just your Instagram. Based in Plymouth, Devon, we work with professionals aged 30 to 55 who are done with generic gym programmes that deliver nothing but sore knees and stalled progress. Every session is coached, every rep is logged, and every programme is built around you.
Our coaches hold Level 3 Personal Training qualifications and StrongFirst SFG certification, one of the most rigorous kettlebell and strength coaching standards in the world. We don't throw that around for show. It means every cue, every loading decision, and every movement standard you receive has been trained to a professional level that most PT studios in Plymouth simply don't match.
We measure what matters. Not before-and-after photos. Not belt-hole counts. Real numbers, kilos lifted, reps completed, mobility benchmarks hit. Over 80% of our clients have been training with us for more than two years, and several are still lifting competently and confidently in their sixties. That's the result we're proud of.
Quay Strength began with a single client, a barbell, and a rented corner of a Plymouth warehouse. The mission was clear: coach strength properly, log every session, charge fairly.
Our head coach completed the StrongFirst SFG certification in London, a two-day, pass-or-fail practical assessment that set the technical standard for everything we coach today.
Demand from existing clients led us to open our first small-group strength sessions, capped at six athletes per class to maintain coaching quality and individual attention.
We expanded beyond Plymouth with structured online programming for remote clients, the same logged, progressive approach delivered through our digital platform.
Responding to what our clients actually asked for, we integrated nutrition coaching into our offering, practical, evidence-based guidance built around real Plymouth lives, not competition prep.
Quay Strength crossed 100 active clients across 1-to-1, small-group, and online programmes, with a retention rate that proves the method works.
A small team with serious credentials, every coach at Quay Strength is qualified, certified, and still trains themselves.

Jess coaches both 1-to-1 sessions and the Beginner Fundamentals programme. A Level 3 PT with a nutrition coaching qualification, she specialises in helping clients over 40 build confidence under load.
Dan manages all remote clients and online programming delivery. With a background in sports science from the University of Plymouth, he brings data rigour to every training block he writes.
Every session is logged. Every training block is reviewed. You'll always know exactly how far you've come, no guesswork, no vague encouragement.
Level 3 PT and StrongFirst SFG, the qualifications that actually mean something in serious strength coaching. Your safety and technical development are never an afterthought.
We're not interested in six-week transformations. We coach for decades, the kind of strength that keeps you capable, independent, and lifting well into your sixties and beyond.
Our group sessions are capped at six. You're not a number in a packed class, you're an athlete getting coached, corrected, and pushed in the right direction.
We don't sell transformations or chasing aesthetics. We sell honesty, straight talk about what works, what takes time, and what your body genuinely needs.
